Movie]
via
Jean-Luc Godard, shooting a scene for “Breathless” at Orly Airport, in 1959, calls out instructions to his actors while the camera rolls.

At far left, François Truffaut during the shoot of “Stolen Kisses,” in 1968.

Godard shot his third feature, “A Woman Is a Woman,” starring Anna Karina, in 1960. He married her in 1961.

“Stolen Kisses” stars Jean-Pierre Léaud, who had also played the lead in Truffaut’s first feature, “The 400 Blows.” At left, Truffaut. At right, Henri Langlois, the founder of the Cinémathèque Française.

On location, Truffaut relied on a battery of movie lights alongside his weighty studio camera.

Godard filmed the last scene of “Breathless” without crowd control and with no equipment but a hand-held camera.
